Disabled Birds
Lucy

Our favorite problem child is Lucy. for a  long time we tried to conceal her, because too often we heard "she has no life worth living", "twist her neck around", etc. etc., to a point it was too much to bear to hear more of these comments about Lucy. Because we had and have the feeling,  and yes the certainty, Lucy enjoys and lives her life to the fullest within her means.
To break the tension: Lucy has spread leg syndom and she cant walk nor stand. She can fly but not land, which is why we try to prevent her from doing so.

Lucy loves to bathe, but she can't bathe on her own. We now have her own tinkered bathtub cut to her needs, in which we bathe her...
Her life is heavily ritualised, more so it amazes us how creative she can master new challenges.Lucy stayed with "Hühn" for a while and we were proud to see how well she managed her self in this new environment. But it also made it all too clear to us what little things one must think of to prevent her from danger.
But also how much we allready lived up to Lucy's needs, things we did not mention to  "Hühn" simply because it was daily routine for us.
Lucy is grateful for every kind little gesture towards her. She openly expresses her joy when taken from her cage and being released on an adjusted swing in the window.
Lucy knows exactly what she wants and wherever she wants - small bites show us the direction she wants to be carried in.
Meanwhile we are also sure that she compensates her physical disability with higher intelligence.
Her trust in us has no limits. Mornings and evenings she spends a lot of time with us, sleeping in our hands. If the other birds are still out enjoying free flight we protect her by gently covering her with our other hand. This way she feels very happy.

In March 2009, Luzy moved to a larger cage, because even she seemed to need a larger living space than we originally assumed.
But we needed to watch Lucy carefully to make sure she did not push her self too far in the Casa2.
And here the story about Lucy continues!
