Disabled Birds
Lucy's new home

The cage is furnished in a way it meets up entirely to Lucy's needs. An important point is that, if Lucy would accidentally lose her grip and fall, her unprotected lower body would bounce on the floor. That is why we created the following construction to harness a cloth that would gently catch her; wooden frames were sawed suitable to the inner dimensions of the aviary.A smooth, solid cloth (to prevent Lucy from getting stuck with her long claws, needed for climbing and clinging )  cut in a way, that the ends could be wrapped  around the wooden frame twice. In addition riveted holes were placed on the inside of the bar in the cloth and the whole was placed about 20 cm above the faeces drawer and fixed with cable ties. It is almost like a trampoline for our Lucy. (Images 2,3). Spread over the Casa we placed  Cork tubes, her favorite sleeping house made of water hyacinth leaves (last image) and perches, so that she could always take a brake on her scramble and climbing tours. (Image 1).
Because Lucy loves to lay under the Birdlamp we also constructed her a beautiful solarium with a comfortable cork pad directly under the lamp. (Last image)
Below, a few pictures to show how well the little disabled hen felt at home in her new residence. Sadly enough, Lucy flew over the Rainbow Bridge Christmas 2009.
 These are our last images of her;
